10th Annual Back To School Shop with a Cop July 30 and 31st, 2014

School Shop with Cop LogoThe Police Officers of Scottsdale Association Outreach team is proud to announce our 10th annual Back to School Shop with a Cop event in conjunction with Payless Shoe Source, Vista del Camino and Concerned Citizens. Helping us again this year will be DPS GIITEM, AZ State Gang Task force and SPD SROs.

This program has been designed to unite Scottsdale Police Officers and public safety employees with local disadvantaged school children to enable them to put their best foot forward when starting the new school year. Each child will be eligible to receive new shoes, several outfits of clothing and a backpack full of school supplies. All parents will receive fingerprints and new pictures of their children for the school year taken by the police officers working in the school district and in their communities.

It is a great time for cops and kids to interact and break down the barriers that often exist. The goal is to not only financially help these children but to let them know they have someone to turn too when faced with a potential crisis (drugs, gangs, weapons, bullying etc.)

Children will be screened through the local community centers and Human Services for financial need. Last year the program sponsored almost 500 children who needed assistance along with the support of Payless Shoe Source and the many donations from our citizens and business community in Scottsdale. In these hard economic times, we are faced with the certainty that the number of kids needing your help will continue to increase.

The Police Officers of Scottsdale Association strongly believes that we are making a difference in the lives of our children and families in the Scottsdale area and surrounding communities and we are grateful for your support as we continue our year-round programming efforts.

If you would like to donate on line go to http://www.posacares.com and it
will take you to our secure on line donation process.

Please support POSA in helping Child Abuse Prevention with the 2014 April Blue Ribbon Campaign

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

believe-in-the-blue

POSA (Police Officers of Scottsdale Association), the Professional Exchange Club of Scottsdale, the Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation, and Right Toyota of Scottsdale team up for the 2014 Blue Ribbon Campaign for child abuse awareness.

For the past several years the blue ribbon has been widely recognized as a national symbol of child abuse awareness. This movement began in the spring of 1989 – when a concerned grandmother took a stand against child abuse after experiencing the death of her grandson. She tied a symbolic blue ribbon to her van as a signal to her community of her personal commitment to involve everyone in the battle to stop child abuse. The spirit of her blue ribbon grew and it inspired a national effort to join forces in this tragic battle.

Today – the blue ribbon symbolizes the more than 3.2 million abused children reported each year to Child Protective Services (CPS) throughout the United States.

During the month of April – Child Abuse Prevention Month – nearly 1,100 Exchange Clubs and Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Centers conduct a Blue Ribbon campaign in their communities across America.

In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, POSA is partnering with the Professional Exchange Club of Scottsdale, the Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation, and Right Toyota located on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd in Scottsdale for the sale of Blue Ribbons. PCIS will also be selling the Blue Ribbons.

Buy a Blue Ribbon for a $1… POSA will donate an additional $1, the Exchange Club of Scottsdale will donate $1, Right Toyota will donate $1, and the Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation will donate $1 to the Scottsdale FAC (Family Advocacy Center) for PCIS to use to support the victims of child abuse and domestic violence up to $500.00 per organization.

For every $1.00 donated, $4 additional dollars will be given to PCIS. 4x your donation! In April, we could raise $2000 or more…to help your Scottsdale FAC work on issues of Child Abuse in the Scottsdale community.

For more information about the Blue Ribbon Campaign email Cynthia Hill at posaoutreach@hotmail.com.

Donations can also be accepted directly at the POSA office.

All blue ribbons will be sent to the Scottsdale FAC with your name on it for them to display in the lobby.

*Checks can be made Payable to POSA OUTREACH 501c3 and are 100% tax deductible. Please indicate “Blue Ribbon Campaign” on your check.

POSA, Pet Pantry and Scottsdale Leadership build partnership to help Scottsdale pets at K-9 Trials

Love building great partnerships!

Hugs, ear scratches and belly rubs – that was the scene at last weekend’s P.E.T. Pantry booth, from the perspective of Hannah our grateful Ambass-a-Dog. Hannah’s job was to ‘make new friends’. Meanwhile her human counterparts spoke to these new friends about the needs of Vista del Camino food bank’s pet food program and how it “Keeps pets with their people during times of financial crisis.”

The weekend was a success with much needed pet food and cash donations due to the efforts of volunteers from POSA and Scottsdale Leadership’s Class 25. A special shout out goes to Sgt. Chris Coffee for his assistance in securing booth space at the 12th Annual Desert Dog K9 Trials, held at Scottsdale Stadium on April 12 & 13. Watch for announcements of the upcoming fall P.E.T. Pantry event to raise awareness, pet food and funds to stock the P.E.T. Pantry!
