April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

believe-in-the-blue

POSA (Police Officers of Scottsdale Association), the Professional Exchange Club of Scottsdale, the Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation, and Right Toyota of Scottsdale team up for the 2014 Blue Ribbon Campaign for child abuse awareness.

For the past several years the blue ribbon has been widely recognized as a national symbol of child abuse awareness. This movement began in the spring of 1989 – when a concerned grandmother took a stand against child abuse after experiencing the death of her grandson. She tied a symbolic blue ribbon to her van as a signal to her community of her personal commitment to involve everyone in the battle to stop child abuse. The spirit of her blue ribbon grew and it inspired a national effort to join forces in this tragic battle.

Today – the blue ribbon symbolizes the more than 3.2 million abused children reported each year to Child Protective Services (CPS) throughout the United States.

During the month of April – Child Abuse Prevention Month – nearly 1,100 Exchange Clubs and Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Centers conduct a Blue Ribbon campaign in their communities across America.

In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, POSA is partnering with the Professional Exchange Club of Scottsdale, the Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation, and Right Toyota located on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd in Scottsdale for the sale of Blue Ribbons. PCIS will also be selling the Blue Ribbons.

Buy a Blue Ribbon for a $1… POSA will donate an additional $1, the Exchange Club of Scottsdale will donate $1, Right Toyota will donate $1, and the Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation will donate $1 to the Scottsdale FAC (Family Advocacy Center) for PCIS to use to support the victims of child abuse and domestic violence up to $500.00 per organization.

For every $1.00 donated, $4 additional dollars will be given to PCIS. 4x your donation! In April, we could raise $2000 or more…to help your Scottsdale FAC work on issues of Child Abuse in the Scottsdale community.

For more information about the Blue Ribbon Campaign email Cynthia Hill at posaoutreach@hotmail.com.

Donations can also be accepted directly at the POSA office.

All blue ribbons will be sent to the Scottsdale FAC with your name on it for them to display in the lobby.

*Checks can be made Payable to POSA OUTREACH 501c3 and are 100% tax deductible. Please indicate “Blue Ribbon Campaign” on your check.

Police and Fire Agencies Invited to Participate in Annual 9-11 Memorial Healing Field on Sept 11, 2013

All Arizona Police and Fire departments are being asked to send an honor guard and/or an emergency vehicle to the Healing Field at Tempe Beach Park on September 11th for the 12th memorial anniversary of the attacks on our country by terrorists.

Remembrance ceremonies will begin at 5:40 am and 6:30pm on September 11th. Cars will be placed around the healing field with blue and red lights on to honor those who gave their life trying to save innocent civilians. Please contact Cynthia Hill, POSA (Police Officers of Scottsdale Association), or call 480-433-1101 to arrange for your department to be involved.

Honor guards are also encouraged to participate in both the morning and evening ceremonies on September 11th.  Names of fallen first responders will be read at the morning memorial service.

POSA is an annual sponsor of this 9-11 Memorial Healing Field  in Tempe along with the City of Tempe and Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation and Tempe Exchange Club. It is the largest and longest running healing field in the Southwest with over 3000 full size American flags. It is a day that should always be remembered as a day terrorists tried to alter the psyche of a nation with fear. A day we never should forget.

We are also very thankful to Valley Toyota Dealers who are annual sponsors for this event.

UPDATE:

Volunteers are welcome to help set up on the morning of September 10th at 6:00am.  Your help is much appreciated and if last year’s response is anything to go by… we will be finished setting up in just a few hours of hard work.  If you can make it, just show up at Tempe Beach Park, bring work gloves and sun block.  We’ll have water for you.  We also need volunteers on the morning of the 15th to help break down Healing Field.
